Fanny Crosby

Begin in silence…
Close your eyes and open your hands as a posture of receptiveness before the Lord. Ask the Lord to help you worship him in your heart and mind.

Set the scene…
Today we celebrate the story of famous hymn writer, Fanny Crosby. Over her life, she composed over 8,000 gospel hymns, many under pseudonyms. Her most well-known songs include Blessed Assurance, To God Be the Glory, Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, Safe in the Arms of Jesus, and Rescue the Perishing.

She lost her eyesight at six weeks old due to a mistreated eye infection. However, she never blamed the under-experienced doctor who left her without her sight. As a child, she credits a Christian lady, Mrs. Hawley, for teaching her the Bible. Fanny’s knowledge of scripture and her deep relationship with Jesus is evident in her work.
