The Bleeding Woman

Set the scene…
For today’s scripture reading, we are in Capernaum, a fishing village on the Sea of Galilee. Let’s join the scene.

Jesus is walking through the narrow and crowded streets on his way to heal the daughter of synagogue leader Jairus. The situation is dire, so Jesus hurries to the dying girl.

In the midst of the chaos of the circumstances and the crowd, Jesus notices that power leaves his body. A woman, after bleeding for twelve years and spending all of her money on doctors with no relief, pushes her way through the crowd to reach for the hem of Jesus’ garment. As she touches it, she experiences immediate healing.
