The Treasury Widow

Preparation for today’s experience…
In addition to today’s spiritual practice of Lectio Divina, we will add a sensory experience using sound. Take a moment to gather two coins and a cup made of metal (or another material that makes a distinct sound when coins are dropped into it). Place these items before you and follow the instructions to incorporate them below.

Begin in silence…
Close your eyes and sit in stillness. Open your hands and ask the Lord to open your ears and heart.

Set the scene…
In today’s passage, we venture to the treasury of the Temple in Jerusalem. Our story highlights the faith and devotion of a widow, often called the “Widow’s Mite.” Within the temple in Jerusalem, there is the Court of Women, a place where both men and women are allowed. There. the treasury has 13 trumpet-shaped chests to collect the temple taxes, tithes and other donations. Some of the more wealthy givers tend to make a spectacle as they put their money in. Jesus sits and observes from a place across from the treasury.
